Dramatic teal painted corridor leading toward light, Pagkrati loft, Athens — 01 / 12

A loft in Pagkrati renovated by Villy Vougiouka, with the building's 1970s character kept in view.

Colour is doing the work here, so the photography had to hold it honestly. A deep teal corridor, terracotta pendants, fluted timber against black, grey marble, all of it sitting against white without going flat or turning muddy.

A flat defined by its palette only reads if the palette survives the photograph. Get that wrong and it looks like any other white renovation, which is the one thing this one is not.
